Why it takes courage to decide what you really want

courage goals Dec 13, 2022

Do you ever look back on your life and think "if only I'd had the courage to do that in the first place?"

So, hindsight and all that bla bla bla... but if we want to live more fully right NOW what can we do?

One of the recurring themes in my coaching practice is that of struggling to connect to what the heart really wants.

And why is that?

Well, apart from all the stories about how it's dangerous to follow your heart, it's also seen as a bit wishy-washy. Which is interesting, as that would suggest that the heart is both powerful enough to cause mass disruption but also far too weak to take any notice of...all very confusing and rather contradictory.

So, here's the way I see it:

We currently live a society that insists we use our minds for everything. Which leads to chronic mind-overload and a huge fear and negativity bias (noticed all the 'end of the world' scenarios at all?) This leads to overwhelm and not being able to use our minds very well at all. Plus misery and exhaustion at trying to survive rather than thrive (despite data showing that most things have got hugely better for most people in the last few decades).

When we learn to control our attention, supporting the mind with nourishing practices and information, rather than fear and overload and allowing the body and the heart to join in the conversation about how to navigate our way - things start to shift (this is one of the things that I get so excited about in my coaching).

But - it takes courage and commitment to shift from the way you've been taught.

In this week's episode of The Overwhelm is Optional podcast I discuss how to have the courage to decide what you really want. It's part 2 of reviewing 2022 and identifying what you want to focus on in 2023 but can also be used any time you want to bring about change in your life.

And if you'd like support with cutting through the overwhelm and finding the courage to identify what you really want in 2023 please book a Breakthrough the Overwhelm Session.

Wishing you an Unexpectedly Lovely Day.
