YOU DO NOT WANT TOO MUCH

having it all Apr 07, 2024
You do not want too much

Ever thought that maybe you just want too much?

That if you could settle for less everything would magically fall into place?

What are you willing to give up for ease, peace of mind, health, sanity, the ability to think straight and be present with those you love most in the world?

Your well-paid, often satisfying work?

Your dream home?

Holidays?

But hang on, aren’t holidays part of the ease, peace of mind, health, sanity, the ability to think straight and be present with those you love most in the world?

Not holidays then…

What about your home? The home you pinch yourself that you get to live in. The one you worked really, really hard for.

Dream home v ease, peace of mind, health, sanity, the ability to think straight and be present with those you love most in the world.

Would giving up your dream home give you more ease, peace of mind, health, sanity, the ability to think straight and be present with those you love most in the world?

Or would it add to your overwhelm, heaped with a ton of grief and resentment?

What about your job?

This thought experiment is not much fun is it?

Because these are terrible choices. They’re also a sign of chronic overwhelm.

Any time you feel stuck between two equally crap choices, know this: it’s overwhelm, not the truth.

When you look back, when the fog of overwhelm has cleared, you’ll be able to see this.

But why wait for hindsight?

Clear the overwhelm NOW, and you’ll be able to see all the hidden possibilities that will later reveal themselves to you.

How?

  • By gently rebelling against The Nonsense that to have the life you want you have to push through overwhelm into exhaustion.
  • By committing to yourself first, to living your life, your way.
  • And by embedding into your life your favourite overwhelm clearing practices.

Here’s some of mine:

  • Neutral Noticing - this one changed my life. It's a body-mind attention practice that reverses the habits that lead to overwhelm and burnout - habits like trying, striving, pushing, attempting to control everything, holding patterns of tension in the body and so much more. If you’d like to give it a go, it’s available here as a free one-minute audio.
  • The Morning Promise: Starting my day with a commitment to myself first, to living my life, my way. This means starting the day with the clear intention of finding the easiest, most fun, most nourishing and enjoyable way to move through my day.
  • Connecting to my heart and remembering what matters most to me - my why, the point of the things I'm rushing to get done.
  • Putting on a gently rebellious pair of glasses and checking the story running like the distant hum of a fridge in the background of my mind.
  • Noticing the pressure, the pushing, - what's the belief here? Is it helpful or hindering me?

Changing your perspective and checking your beliefs is deeply transformative. It's how you get to have a full life and the freedom to be more fully yourself.

You do not want too much.

If you'd like some help, check out this course here to support you with going into this deeper in just a few minutes of soothing audio a day.
